Rosa Lowinger is writer and an art conservator with a specialty in modern and contemporary art and architecture. The director and chief conservator of Rosa Lowinger and Associates, a Los Angeles-based conservation studio with major projects in Miami and Honolulu, she is the 2009 Booth Family Rome Prize Fellow in Historic Preservation and Conservation at the American Academy in Rome. Her project at AAR consists of original research on the history of vandalism of art and architecture, a subject comprising graffiti, acts of insanity and the pernicious sorts of destruction one encounters during times of ethnic and political conflict. A consultant to public art agencies throughout the United States, she lectures frequently on issues of modern media, outdoor sculpture and art in the public arena.
